Sin embargo, recientes observaciones de reacciones adversas resaltan la necesidad de una revisi%u00f3n de su seguridad. El objetivo de este art%u00edculo es revisar la producci%u00f3n, aplicaciones y riesgos del AH en el %u00e1mbito cosm%u00e9tico. La producci%u00f3n de AH incluye fermentaci%u00f3n bacteriana, adaptando el peso molecular seg%u00fan el uso. La reticulaci%u00f3n prolonga su duraci%u00f3n en aplicaciones d%u00e9rmicas, aunque puede generar riesgos debido a los agentes reticulantes. Adem%u00e1s, se ha reportado que las inyecciones de AH pueden ocasionar algunas complicaciones post-infecciosas o tras la vacunaci%u00f3n con SARS-CoV-2. Estas complicaciones incluyen necrosis y reacciones de hipersensibilidad. El AH es efectivo en cosm%u00e9tica, pero su uso requiere monitoreo cuidadoso para evitar reacciones adversas. Las reacciones de hipersensibilidad, aunque raras, subrayan la importancia de considerar antecedentes m%u00e9dicos y de realizar un control de calidad exhaustivo en su producci%u00f3n y aplicaci%u00f3n.Palabras calve: %u00c1cido hialur%u00f3nico, agentes reticulantes, reacciones adversas, hipersensibilidad, cosm%u00e9tica.Hyaluronic acid (HA), discovered in 1934, is a polysaccharide with moisturizing and water retention properties that is widely used in cosmetics for anti-aging treatments. However, recent observations of adverse reactions highlight the need for a review of its safety. The objective of this article is to review the production, applications and risks of HA in the cosmetic field. The production of HA includes bacterial fermentation, adapting the molecular weight according to the use. Cross-linking prolongs its duration in dermal applications, although it may pose risks due to cross-linking agents. In addition, it has been reported that HA injections can cause some post-infectious complications or after vaccination with SARS-CoV-2. These complications include necrosis and hypersensitivity reactions. HA is effective in cosmetics, but its use requires careful monitoring to avoid adverse effects.
